with everything his dad wants and how his dad treats him in the recordings, i am surprised by how much gon wants to go after him.

In my opinion, the fact that Gon knows how absurd Ging's standards are and how he faces them head on just makes him the more unhinged.

Its more like he trusted his son a lot. Its the same like Minato Naruto relationship where Minato put kyuubi on Naruto. The father trusted the son that they can pass the trial that the father made. The son got their father gene after all. Because of the same gene, they know for sure that their son would be able to passed it. Instead of high standards and wanting Gon to be dead, what happened in here showed how much Ging trust Gon.
